Prabowo Subianto – SPIEF 2025 Main Guest

Russian President Vladimir Putin named Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto the main guest of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum this year. RISS expert Ivan Belikov analyzed the results of the Indonesian leader's visit, as well as the development of political and economic cooperation between Moscow and Jakarta.

Summary:

RISS Expert Ivan Belikov touches upon the Russian-Indonesian cooperation and talks on the visit of the President of the Republic of Indonesia at St. Petersburg International Economic Forum 2025.

Although the visit had not been announced, the president himself said that he had gotten an invitation to St. Petersburg earlier than that for G7. That was the reason for him to choose the Economic Forum.

Talks between presidents were held in the margins of the forum. Several agreements were reached and several memorandums signed. Both presidents agreed to strengthen ties in the fields of higher education and tourism. More Indonesian students would flow to Russia in pursuit of better and relatively cheaper higher education. There would be more regular flights between countries and easier ways to get a Russian visa for Indonesians.

The expert also noted that Russia, unfortunately, is not the number one partner for Indonesia as the country lies far off the Russian shores. Its main partners are India and the Middle East. However, both presidents still discussed the possible growth of grain and oil export and military cooperation.
