Current Trends in Historical Policy in European Countries
On June 2, the Russian Institute for Strategic Studies hosted a roundtable discussion by the Center for Historical Policy on "Current Trends in the Historical Policy of European Countries". Participants included I.V. Bolgova, Head of the "Historical Policy and Identity" Program at the Institute of International Studies at MGIMO University; N.P. Tanshina, Chief Researcher at the Research Laboratory for Complex Historical Research at the Institute of Social Sciences at RANEPA and Leading Researcher at MGIMO University; A.V. Barynkin, Associate Professor of the Department of European Studies at the Faculty of International Relations at St. Petersburg State University; N.M. Mezhevich, Head of the Center for Belarusian and Baltic Studies at the Institute of Europe at the Russian Academy of Sciences; V.V. Trukhachev, Associate Professor of the Department of Political Science at the Faculty of Social Sciences and Mass Communications at the Financial University under the Government of the Russian Federation; and RISS experts.
During their presentations, the roundtable participants analyzed new approaches to developing historical policy in EU countries and the UK. Experts discussed the contemporary interpretation of history in Central, Southern, and Eastern European countries amid rising nationalist tendencies and their impact on foreign and domestic policy.
