Crisis of Ideas: Western Experts in Search of New Meanings
According to the leading RISS analyst, Sergey Ermakov, the Western expert community has found itself in an ideological dead end. Analytical production is being ideologized, and political science masters such as J. Mearsheimer are being ostracized for their views diverging from the mainstream. As a result, many issues are simply hushed up, and alternative points of view are not even provided with platforms for voicing them.
The RISS expert believes that lobbying groups' influence in forming the research agenda has increased significantly, especially in matters of defense and security. This trend decreases the quality of analytics, adversely affects scientific objectivity, and, in fact, forces Western experts to more often adjust their conclusions and outlooks to the current political conjuncture.
