Trends in the development of domestic political life in Romania
On December 12, the Russian Institute for Strategic Studies hosted a round table on the topic “On trends in the development of domestic political life in Romania.” The event was attended by Tatyana Bitkova, PhD in Philology and leading research fellow at INION RAS; Igor Shornikov, PhD in History and associate professor at the Department of Humanities at the Financial University under the Government of the Russian Federation; Alina Azarenkova, lecturer at the Department of Political Science at Moscow State Linguistic University; and RISS specialists.
During the discussion, experts analyzed the domestic political situation in Romania and the specifics of the activities of the leading parties at the stage of preparation and holding of the parliamentary and first round of presidential elections, the possible consequences of the Constitutional Court's cancellation of the results of the vote, during which the majority of voters expressed their support for the non-systemic candidate K. Georgescu, the prospects for the socio-economic development of the country, as well as the participation of the Romanian Orthodox Church in its political life.
