The Ultra Right in Latin America: Ideology and Political Practice
On September 25, the Russian Institute for Strategic Studies hosted an expert panel "The Ultra Right in Latin America: Ideology and Political Practice." The main speakers were Ludmila Okuneva, Professor at the Department of History and Politics of European and American Countries at MGIMO University, Chief Research Fellow at the Institute of Latin America of the Russian Academy of Sciences and Zbignev Ivanovsky, Professor at the Faculty of Global Processes at Lomonosov Moscow State University, Chief Research Fellow at the Institute of Latin America of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Editor-in-Chief of the Iberoamérica journal. The event was also attended by Ludmila Dyakova, Leading Research Fellow at the Center for Political Research at the Institute of Latin America of the Russian Academy of Sciences and Andrei Pyatakov, Leading Research Fellow at the Center for Analytical Research at the Institute of Latin America of the Russian Academy of Sciences. Experts from the Russian Institute for Strategic Studies joined the main speakers.
During the discussion participants considered different interpretations of the "right-wing" concept in Latin America, studied the specific role of the right-wing in the political life of several countries in the region. Comparative analysis of the interaction between Latin American right-wing groups and similar ideological groups in other countries around the world was carried out.
