The Policy of Southeast Asian Countries and Prospects for Developing Russia's Relations with Them in the Context of Modern Geopolitical Changes
On May 27, the Russian Institute for Strategic Studies hosted a round table discussion chaired by Director Mikhail Fradkov on the topic of "The Policy of Southeast Asian Countries and Prospects for Developing Russia's Relations with Them in the Context of Modern Geopolitical Changes." The event was attended by representatives of the Center for Southeast Asian, Australian, and Oceanian Studies at the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences, headed by Director Dmitry Mosyakov, Academic Secretary Ekaterina Astafieva, and Chief Research Fellow Alexey Drugov; Head of the Department of Far Eastern History at St. Petersburg State University, Director of the Ho Chi Minh Institute Vladimir Kolotov; Chief Research Fellow of the Center for Asian-Pacific Studies at IMEMO RAS Viktor Sumsky; Research Fellow of the Center for Scientific and Analytical Information at IMEMO RAS Alexander Butko; Assistant Professor of the Department of Far Eastern History at St. Petersburg State University Mikhail Ignatiev; Junior Research Fellows of the Sector for New Challenges in South and Southeast Asia at the Center for the Indian Ocean Region at IMEMO RAS Ivan Zaitsev and Grigory Kucherenko.
During the discussion, experts highlighted the growing confrontation between the United States and China as a significant factor influencing the dynamics of processes in Southeast Asia. The round table participants emphasized that even in the context of growing global geopolitical contradictions, cooperation between Russia and the states of the region is developing systematically, especially in the trade, economic and humanitarian spheres.
